Our Story

Education For Anyone, Anywhere

Khan Academy has set out to provide a world-class education for anyone, anywhere. We firmly believe in that mission. We are contributing by providing STEAM learning resources at an accessible cost. Starting with Project Apollo, our kits will be available at a fraction of the cost of competitors.

From Students to Students

We understand students because we are students and life-long learners. Many of us participated in high school robotics. We have used many popular educational robotics systems. We were surprised by the clunky tech or exorbitant prices. It shouldn’t cost hundreds of dollars per student to teach coding, electronics, or robotics.

Project Helios

Project Helios started as a high school senior design project. Jason, Drew, and I built Helios using Arduino, teaching us the amazing capability of Arduino and showing me the amazing things a student can learn from robotics.

After high school, Drew and Jason went to college, while I went to Mexico as a volunteer for two years. While away, Jason passed away in a car accident.

After all those years, I have decided to rebuild Helios to remember Jason and share the things he built.

Project Apollo

Project Helios and my experience in high school robotics has shaped my life. Wonderful teachers and mentors guided me and inspiring me to help others through technology. I firmly believe everyone has immense potential to learn and change the world. I believe that all students can succeed in school, including in subjects they find difficult. They just need the right resources.

Apollo is an Arduino-based robotics kit that can be used to teach students programming, circuitry, logic, physics, and many other topics. Based on open-source hardware and software, Apollo can be sold at a fraction of the cost when compared to other kits.
